Who would like to be an Electrician?

Here is the circuit ready to go. Mr Muir has set the main parts up for us already. Can you see the switch, lamp fitting, battery fitting and the wires?

We are all really excited to be making a circuit. We are learning to put the wires in the correct place, under a screw, under a metal plate. We have to trace the line of the circuit with our finger to figure out if the circuit is complete. If it is not the bulb will not light up when we turn the switch on.

Patience and fine motor skills have been necessary this week for beading! Patterning and planning and a little help from our friends too.!

Friday Fun Times

Rehearsing our Maori Legends with R6 as our audience. They were a great group and gave us lots of positive feedback and then some feed forward to help us improve for next time.

R6 has 2 international students in their class from China. They accompanied and sang a song to the tune of You Are My Sunshine which they had taught R6 to sing in Chinese, it was a beautiful song boys!

Dylan's Teach the Teacher up next! A clever boy who can make things out of balloons! Dylan and his Mum, Mrs Fowler, provided the balloons, pumps and some colourful string and sticks to make a leash and collar for our fantastic dogs. 

This was so much fun and we only popped a few! 

Makey Makey

Today more children explored using the Makey Makey kit and using Scratch. Great thinking Ruby, Diamon, Leena, Alex, Jack and Dylan.
Alex and Dylan had a super idea to ask the whole class to make a circuit and we were able to create a HUGE circuit!

Makey Makey creativity and innovation in R20 for Tinker Time this week!

Today we began to learn how to create an electrical circuit using crocodile clips and materials such as tinfoil and playdoh - as well as ourselves!

We connected our circuit using a Makey Makey board (sort of a digital circuit board) to a laptop. We opened up Scratch to write some lines of simple code including sounds. When the wires were connected to different parts of the board like up arrow or down arrow and the Earth part of the circuit the sound programmed to activate at that command was played by the computer.

Robert taught the group his Scratch skills and Karol, Quinn and Lucas were able to create the beginnings of their Scratch programme.

Mrs T explained the idea of the circuit and then taught Valentina and Rose how to create a circuit to play on her laptop.

Raspberry Pi

Robert has taught us all about Raspberry Pi and how it can connect us up to the screen, that is fairly new in our classroom (thank you Mrs Driver!)

For those of us who love Hour of Code and Scratch - Robert has a different take on it and was able to demonstrate how to write some code using Scratch. Great to see what interests you Robert - thanks for sharing with R20, Mrs T and Mrs Driver. 

We love seeing you use the mbots in the Library at lunch time too! Go in at Lunchtimes there are fantastic Texperts there from Year 6 to help out!

Teach the Teacher

Teach the Teacher and Room 20 - what will we be learning on Fridays?

The Seniors have Friyays but we have Teach the Teacher! Every week 2 or 3 children will present/ demonstrate/ teach the rest of Room 20 and Mrs T about something. It could be an experiment, a hobby, a sport, cooking, magic, anything that you have a passion or special interest in.

Erin had a wonderful slide presentation on Google docs to explain exactly how to make Frozen play dough. Erin did all her research at home and emailed it to Mrs T so she was ready to go!
Everyone who could brought cups and utensils in case we needed them. Thanks everyone!

Erin did such a great job with all the mixing of ingredients and the children all helped and mixed the dough up so that everyone had a bag of dough to take home!

Next Valentina took the floor with her capable assistant Ruby. Valentina demonstrated her Experiment of Reactions using milk, food colouring, and vinegar.

Valentina was a great speaker and demonstrated carefully and clearly so that we all understood her experiment really well.

The colours mixed together and created new colours then when the vinegar reacted and turned into foam there were lots of oohs and aahs!
