Busy days leading up to the end of term 3! Teach the teacher from Karlia, Quinn and Ruby!

Karlia showed us how to make faces on top of biscuits. It was a super demonstration thank you  -along with your slide show of instructions you could run a cooking school Karlia!

Ruby showed us a very interesting experiment involving dissolving of colour. It was very controlled and involved good listening as well as observation skills!

Next Quinn had to move his soccer skills indoors as it started to rain but he can continue his lesson next term when hopefully it will be drier! Great work Quinn - we are improving I think?!

Lockie, Diamon and Karlia have been working in a Language Group and have improved their skills so much they received certificates for their efforts! Super independent learning guys! Keep it up!

Always moving at Sunnyhills School - keeping fit and having fun in Spring weather!

First up we have Max M's Teach the teacher - where he shared some very complicated but fun soccer moves and we all had a really good growth mindset and had a go! None of us sprained an ankle!

We have continued our running training and are thinking of the Huff n puff early next term! Most of us can now easily do 3 laps and pushing towards 4 laps now. Remember to bring your PE uniform and running shoes to protect those little growing bones every Tue and Thur.

Badminton Auckland sent Dhanny to teach us how to play this fun indoor sport. We learned lots of fun warm ups followed by the different grips and ways to hit the shuttle across the net. Once again a really great mindset from everyone and we are keen to have another go next term. Mrs Fowler has bought some more badminton equipment for our PE shed so we can continue playing.

Wacky Dress up Day and Teach the Teacher Friday

Wacky dress up day with all sorts of fun clothes, shoes and hair dos today. All money raised is going to Kids Can - our School Leaders' charity for the term. We have raised over $600 so far. Thank you for your genorosity Sunnyhills Community.

Jack was Teach the Teacher this week and prepared a fantastic slideshow about Greece and the history this country has. It was so interesting to hear about and we had lots of questions to ask Jack too. Well done Jack! 

Lauren taught us how to make a Galaxy in a jar - she showed us how to layer the cotton wool balls and add water and colouring carefully. Some people had brought their own jars and Lauren started to teach small groups of children. She was very patient. Some more people will make their Galaxies next week in the afternoons if they bring a jar and lid to school too.

Friday Fun Times

Rehearsing our Maori Legends with R6 as our audience. They were a great group and gave us lots of positive feedback and then some feed forward to help us improve for next time.

R6 has 2 international students in their class from China. They accompanied and sang a song to the tune of You Are My Sunshine which they had taught R6 to sing in Chinese, it was a beautiful song boys!

Dylan's Teach the Teacher up next! A clever boy who can make things out of balloons! Dylan and his Mum, Mrs Fowler, provided the balloons, pumps and some colourful string and sticks to make a leash and collar for our fantastic dogs. 

This was so much fun and we only popped a few! 

Makey Makey creativity and innovation in R20 for Tinker Time this week!

Today we began to learn how to create an electrical circuit using crocodile clips and materials such as tinfoil and playdoh - as well as ourselves!

We connected our circuit using a Makey Makey board (sort of a digital circuit board) to a laptop. We opened up Scratch to write some lines of simple code including sounds. When the wires were connected to different parts of the board like up arrow or down arrow and the Earth part of the circuit the sound programmed to activate at that command was played by the computer.

Robert taught the group his Scratch skills and Karol, Quinn and Lucas were able to create the beginnings of their Scratch programme.

Mrs T explained the idea of the circuit and then taught Valentina and Rose how to create a circuit to play on her laptop.
